Proxy rotation comes in two forms and they are not the same thing. By interval, a proxy address is held for a fixed span, say five minutes, and every request in that window goes out from one IP. Per request, a new proxy address is taken for each connection, so consecutive calls look like they come from different machines.
The choice depends on whether the task carries state. If a session, a cart or an authorization is held across the work, changing the proxy address mid-way looks odd and often breaks the logic. That calls for interval mode, where a proxy address lives long enough for the scenario to finish.
If there is no state and you have a stream of independent requests, changing the proxy address on every call pays off better. Load spreads in a thin layer and no single address accumulates a rate it can be cut off for.
The starting point is in how the platform counts limits. Some watch requests per proxy address per minute, others total volume per day, others the rate at which new sessions appear. You tune the rhythm to whichever limit trips first.
A practical way to find the edge: start collection at a deliberately low rate and raise it gradually, noting the level at which refusals or checks begin. That point is the ceiling for one proxy address, and the rest is a question of how many proxy addresses it takes to carry the volume you need.
The common mistake runs the other way: set maximum speed first, hit the blocks, then rotate harder. Addresses burn faster than they recover that way, and the proxy pool stops helping.
A sticky session is a mode where one proxy address is pinned to your connection for a set period. Formally it is the same rotation, just with a long interval and a binding to a specific thread.
You need that mode where the platform accumulates state. Authorization, a cart, a multi-step form, pagination that keeps filters: in all of those, changing the proxy address mid-scenario looks like a jump to another device, and the platform either drops the session or asks for confirmation.
Duration is chosen to match the scenario length. Too short and the work breaks; too long and rotation loses its purpose, because the proxy address accumulates request rate and creeps toward the threshold where checks switch on.
In practice it helps to split the work. Everything stateless runs with a proxy address change on every request. Everything carrying a session runs on sticky addresses with an interval slightly above the average scenario time.
A captcha triggers on accumulated signals, and rate from a single address is only one of them. Rotation spreads that rate, so each proxy address takes a share that stays under the threshold. That is exactly why collection runs without stopping.
But rotation does not cancel the other signals. If requests arrive at strictly even intervals, in the same order and carrying identical headers, the platform sees the pattern even across different addresses. Evenness works against you here.
So address changes are worth pairing with a small spread in timing. A range instead of a fixed interval: the request stream then stops looking like machine rhythm.
There is a reverse effect people forget. Changing addresses too often while working with sessions provokes checks on its own, because to the platform it reads as a user jumping between networks. The optimum sits at a rhythm that matches the nature of the task.
